Who are we?

I will be the other contributor on here. You can call me L. I started playing D&D in the mid 80’s starting with the Moldvay B/X set and the Mentzer BECMI box sets with a smattering of AD&D 1E. Played Call of Cthulhu (1/2E?) and some Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader in junior high / high school.

I stopped for 20+ years and picked up a game or two in past several years . Played in a 5E campaign with some strangers that I met on some Pokemon Go group. With new friends, played Savage Worlds, Burning Wheel in another group. Our current game group is trying to maximize gaming so we’ve been playing Castles & Crusades, Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerer’s of Hyperboria, Heroes Unlimited, Amazing Adventures, Call of Cthulhu (7E), Dungeon Crawl Classics.

This blog is to share my thoughts and perspective on the games we play.

Logar The Barbarian:

I am a long-time gamer. I have been running tabletop role playing games for decades. I was never active in communities of gamers outside of my game groups. I was however active in political communities. I feel it would be wise to just put that out there so nothing surprises anyone. I served in the USMC and upon my Honorable Discharge I became involved in the Anti-War movement and my organizing and activism grew from there. I ran a popular political blog for quite a while, so some may remember my username from the time Punk Johnny Cash.

I do not expect this blog to be overtly political, however I believe our world views and ethics creep into all areas of our lives, and those things do come up from time to time. I am unashamedly anti-fascist, anti-racist, anti-capitalist, anti-state and much more. I am an Anarchist and a Wobblie.

It is not my intent to politicize the games I play, but I am also not under a delusion that those things can be completely avoided. I would like this page to be largely non-political, but from what I have seen, places that attempt to be non-political inherently revert to political accepted norms that people can be blind to. Many spaces I have been in that attempt to be non-political tend to revert to certain centrist or conservative political norms if they realize this or not.

So, let us get out some dice, gather around the table, and start playing. It is okay if something comes up from time to time, but for the moment I am just trying to run some games and I hope you are too.

I started playing Table Top Role Playing Games (RPG) sometime in the late 80s. At first I had no idea what I was doing, and what I did was far from how the game was supposed to be played. I eventually learned as time progressed. My first RPG was the 80’s FASA Doctor Who RPG. I moved on to begin playing lots of Palladium Books games. We played a lot of Heroes Unlimited. I played for quite a few years until I eventually played my first game of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (AD&D) in 1993. Through the 90s I played a lot of games. I tried every game I could get my hands on then. The early 2000’s I played sparsely, most games played then were one-shots or just a few sessions. I was able to get a solid ongoing campaign up and running again about a decade ago. I picked right back up with AD&D. I have played mostly fantasy role playing games over the last decade, with a few other things peppered in there. I can’t seem to get enough game, so I figured I would start blogging about Role Playing here. I had a successful blog once upon a time, that story is elsewhere. This is just for gaming. Glad you stopped by.
